The Silver Spring Fire Department (SSFD) is an organization of volunteer and career personnel providing emergency medical, fire and rescue services to the greater Silver Spring area. As an emergency service provider, the Silver Spring Fire Department responds to over 14,000 calls per year. Most calls are for emergency medical services. The rest are for fires, accident responses, urgent rescues, and other incidents. We provide these services as firefighters and emergency medical technicians (EMTs) who have been trained and certified according to Maryland State and Montgomery County standards

Volunteering

Volunteers play a major role in providing these services. With dedication and training, you can join us in the exciting work of serving the community and providing help during the most desparate times.  To volunteer you must be at least 18 years old, pass a physical examination and criminal background check, and be willing to complete our training program.  For more information, please go to our volunteer page or email us.
